The i7 Surface Pro 4 is too new to do anything else but extrapolate that it might last 4 hours or more due to a CPU that sips 15 watts rather than 28. One reviewer pegs the Cintiq to last about 3 hours for sculpting. Weight difference between the two are huge.

Surface Pro 4 gives the ($500) option of a full terabyte of storage where Wacom has reached its limit. Graphics systems on both seem within comparable range – GFLOPS numbers both in the 800 territory. More efficient, next-gen i7 processor from the Surface Pro 4. Slightly bigger screen on the Cintiq, but the SP4 screen packs more DPI (261 v 220).

This begs the question, at the relative same price range, how do they measure up? But on price? Something interesting… as of Dec 8, Wacom is knocking their Companion 2 price down to $2299. Full screech on the stickershock MSRP: $2199.įor giggles, this post had me revisiting Wacom’s site to check if they had any changes to answer the Surface Pro 4. With the i7 Surface Pro 4 models now trickling out, I think many would agree the 16gig/512ssd model looks like the sweet-spot for serious ZBrush use. Knowing that Surface Pro 3s were being used by ZBrushers and were vaguely in the $1400 territory, this path might be worth pursuing. The (then) upcoming Surface Pro 4 might be something to keep an eye on. Months later and ZBrush is finally starting to feel approachable so the idea of unencumbered sculpting on the move came up again. No doubt it’s been well-praised, but still… $2500+ pricetag… I’d need a lot more justification to put it ahead of many other toys in the same price range. Earlier this year, I looked at the Cintiq Companion 2 as a possible self-reward if I progressed in my ZBrush training.
